If Black Wolf Run is the Pete Dye course that tests your nerve, Meadow Valleys at Kohler is the one that tests your patience. Played the same trip from 6,500 yards, shot an 81 with shots left out there — and walked off wanting another crack at it. That alone separates it from its more punishing sibling down the road.
The Course:

Meadow Valleys is a more open, more playable layout than Black Wolf Run, with wider fairways that give you room to work the ball without the constant threat of losing it in native areas. It's a legitimate course without the white-knuckle penalty game that defines Black Wolf.
The wrinkle here is the blind shots. Several holes ask you to commit to a target you can't fully see, which adds a strategic layer that keeps you engaged — and occasionally costs you strokes you didn't see coming. It's a different kind of difficult than Black Wolf Run, more about course management and trust than pure ball-striking accuracy.
The layout is straightforward enough that a second round would yield noticeably better scores. That's not a knock — it's actually a compliment. A course that rewards familiarity is a course worth coming back to.
