Our Itinerary and overall impressions: A Winter Escape: Golf, Spa, and Subtle Splendor
Introduction
Each year, we indulge in a cherished tradition: a luxurious golf and spa retreat shared with dear friends. While the gentlemen immerse themselves in championship golf, we ladies surrender to serene spa experiences. Our January 2025 getaway brought us to a renowned resort nestled in central Florida, with convenient access via either Tampa or Orlando airports. For ease of travel, I recommend selecting the airport offering the most direct and frequent flight options.
The approach to Streamsong Resort is nothing short of breathtaking. Departing from the urban energy of Tampa or Orlando, the landscape gradually transforms as you journey along winding country roads, leaving the bustle of civilization behind. There’s a quiet magic in this transition—a sense of anticipation building with every mile.

The rooftop 360° Bar was the undisputed highlight of our dining experience. Perched atop the Lodge, it offers panoramic views, a vibrant atmosphere, and bartenders who are true artisans. Craft cocktails were shaken and stirred with flair, and the team even dreamed up original concoctions tailored to the guests' preferences. It's best to arrive early—seating fills up quickly, especially around sunset. For those looking to catch a game, both the Rooftop Bar and Pub 59 featured massive TVs and a lively yet relaxed environment—ideal for sipping something exceptional while keeping an eye on the score. Hemy’s, the resort’s poolside bar, impressed with its friendly service and creative drink menu, making it a surprisingly delightful spot for a laid-back afternoon. The Leaf Lounge offered intriguing cocktails and a solid selection of elevated bar snacks—perfect for a pre-dinner drink or a casual nightcap. Over at the Black Course clubhouse, Bone Valley Tavern offered more than just a meal—it delivered a front-row seat to the game itself. The outdoor terrace places you right in the heart of the action as the course unfolds in every direction. Fairways weave through the landscape just beyond your table, with panoramic views of multiple holes providing a dynamic, ever-changing backdrop. As the sun dips low over the dunes, casting golden light across the greens, there’s nothing quite like sipping a well-made cocktail and feeling fully immersed in the rhythm of play. It's a rare blend of comfort, drama, and proximity that elevates a simple drink into a sensory experience.
While the setting is stunning, the resort’s dining scene didn't quite match its visual or service standards. Finn & Feather
We only dined here for breakfast, which was serviceable but underwhelming. The buffet, while varied, felt overpriced for the quality offered. Made-to-order options were available, but service was slow and lacked warmth. Surprisingly, for a resort of this caliber, there were no convenient grab-and-go breakfast choices, making early tee times a bit more stressful than they needed to be. Canyon Lake Steakhouse
Positioned as the resort’s upscale dining option, Canyon Lake Steakhouse delivered a mixed experience. The wine list was impressive and thoughtfully curated, and once again, the bar service was stellar, both in flavor and presentation. However, the food didn’t quite match the promise. The steak was competent but forgettable, and the sides lacked the refinement one would expect from a fine dining venue. It’s a decent meal—just not one that lingers in memory. Sotto Terra
Marketed as the resort’s signature high-end Italian restaurant, Sotto Terra unfortunately fell flat. The experience began with a disappointing charcuterie board that seemed to be repurposed items from the breakfast buffet—grocery-store-level meats and cheeses that felt wholly out of place in a fine dining setting. The entrees lacked inspiration, seasoning, and any thoughtful cohesion between elements on the plate. For a restaurant that emphasizes its culinary pedigree, this felt like the biggest miss. We would recommend skipping it entirely. The Surprising Standout: Pork Rinds at the Turn
It says something when the most memorable dish of the weekend came from a Pub 59—but to their credit, the pork rinds were excellent. Crispy, flavorful, and satisfying, they were the kind of simple dish that surprised and delighted. Still, when a bar snack is the highlight of a culinary weekend, it underscores the missed potential elsewhere.
